Push Pads

Push pads,  are a type of door hardware that allow for easy exit from a building in case of an emergency. Push pads are typically installed on emergency exit doors and are designed to be easy to use by anyone, including those who may have limited mobility or who are carrying items.

Push pads are activated by pressing on the pad, which releases the latch and allows the door to open. When the door is closed, the latch is automatically engaged to keep the door securely shut.

Push pads are often used in conjunction with panic bolts, which are similar to push pads but are designed for use on doors that do not require a latch, such as emergency escape routes.

In the UK, push pads are subject to the BS EN 179 standard, which specifies requirements and test methods for emergency exit devices operated by a lever handle or push pad, for use on escape routes. It is important to ensure that push pads installed in buildings comply with this standard to ensure safety and accessibility for all building occupants.
