Rim Lock

A rim lock is a type of door lock that is mounted on the surface of a door rather than being morticed into the door itself. The lock mechanism is housed in a metal case that is attached to the surface of the door, and the lock is operated by a key or a thumb turn from the inside.

Rim locks are commonly found on interior doors, such as bedrooms and bathrooms, and they can also be used on exterior doors. They are typically less secure than mortice locks or deadbolts, and are often used in combination with other locks for added security.

Rim locks are easy to install and can be a good option for doors that do not have the necessary thickness or sturdiness to accommodate a mortice lock. They can also be a good choice for historic or period properties, as they are available in a variety of finishes and designs to match the style of the door and surrounding hardware. However, because they are mounted on the surface of the door, rim locks may be more susceptible to tampering or damage than other types of locks.
