Panic Latches

A panic latch, also known as a panic bar or crash bar, is a type of door hardware that allows a person to quickly and easily exit a building in the event of an emergency. Panic latches are commonly found on doors in public buildings such as schools, offices, and hospitals.

The mechanism of a panic latch typically consists of a horizontal bar that is installed on the inside of a door. When a person pushes on the bar, it activates a mechanism that unlatches the door, allowing it to open easily. This type of hardware is designed to be simple and easy to use, even in a state of panic or emergency.

Panic latches are an important safety feature in buildings and are often required by building codes and regulations. They are designed to provide a quick and safe exit in the event of an emergency, such as a fire or other dangerous situation.

BS EN 1125 - This standard specifies requirements and test methods for panic exit devices operated by a horizontal bar, for use on escape routes.
