Intumescent products help prevent fire from spreading. When exposed to fire the core material , usually graphite or sodium silicate, expands to seal gaps around the door slowing the progress of the fire.
The products are easy to cut and come in a wide variety of colours, cross-sections and lengths.
All our fire door seals comply with BS 476 part 20:22, and offer either 30 or 60 minutes protection.
It should be noted that whilst intumescent door seals will help protect against smoke when exposed to heat, when there is no heat they offer no smoke protection. An example would be cold smoke generated by a fire in another part of the building.
Smoke inhalation causes more deaths than fire. If you require protection against both fire and smoke then fire door seals incorporating brushes or flippers should be considered.
