Rim Latch

A rim latch is a type of lock that is similar to a rim lock or rim deadlock, but it is typically used for interior doors rather than exterior doors. It is mounted on the surface of a door and consists of a lock body , and a latch bolt that extends from the lock body and engages with a strike plate on the door frame.

Rim latches are commonly used on wooden doors, such as those found in homes and other buildings, and are typically operated with a knob or lever from both the inside and outside of the door. They provide a moderate level of security but are generally considered to be less secure than other types of locks, such as mortice locks or deadbolts.

One of the advantages of a rim latch is that it is relatively easy to install and can be used as an additional locking mechanism alongside other types of locks. However, it is important to consider the level of security required for a particular property before choosing a rim latch as the primary locking mechanism. Additionally, it's important to ensure that the rim latch is installed correctly and with high-quality hardware to ensure maximum security.
