Electromagnetic Door Closers

Electromagnetic door closers use an electromagnet to hold a door in the open position and release it to close automatically in the event of an emergency or power failure. They are commonly used in commercial and public buildings to ensure that fire doors and other emergency exits are properly secured while allowing for easy access and egress.

Dorma electromagnetic door closers cater for both floor mounting and overhead surface mounting. Two popular models are as below:

The floor spring Dorma BTS 80 electromagnetic door closer offering concealed installation, multipoint hold open, mechanical backcheck and is suitable for single and double action doors.

The Dorma TS 73 EMF is an electromagnetic overhead door closer offering electro-mechanical hold-open at angles between 75 and 180 degrees. The door simply has to be opened to the required point and released

The key standards and regulations that apply to electromagnetic door closers in the UK are:

BS EN 1155: This is the European standard for power-operated pedestrian doorsets, which includes electromagnetic door closers. This standard sets out the requirements for the safety and performance of electromagnetic door closers, including durability, fire resistance, and electromagnetic compatibility

BS 7273-4: This British Standard provides guidance on the use of electromagnetic door holders and their interface with fire detection and alarm systems. It specifies the installation and testing requirements for electromagnetic door holders to ensure they are compatible with fire alarm systems and can be released in the event of a fire.

All the door electromagnetic door closers that we sell comply with these standards. If you require advice on selecting or installing your door closers, please call us on 0131 605 0141
